June was a much anticipated month for me. I finally got to bring the family back home to visit my siblings and my parents after not being able to see them for more than 2 years due to the COVID pandemic. It was definitely an exciting time for me to allow my little one to experience his first flight (as a kid!) as we flew from SG to KL on the 5th of June. There was definitely alot of joy for us to be back in KL and to put up in Hilton PJ (our usual hotel spot) for about a week as we enjoyed our time in KL.
We rented a car and drove around the city as I thought it would be comfortable for the family and while it was, the car itself, a humble and modest Proton Saga at times felt difficult and painful to drive. Until today I am still not sure whether there was anything wrong with the car to begin with but all I know was I was happy to give it back to the renter once the lease time was up!
There were a few interesting highlights such as visiting the ole-familiar BookXcess shop in Amcorp mall which brought back memories to me as I would often visit the shop after Saturday sunset masses at SFX PJ and also taking the little one on his first LRT train ride from Asia Jaya to KLCC where we had a late lunch on Tuesday. Being in the LRT trains, while I was steadying the little one on top of the carriage window for him to take a look at the KL City skyline brought me back also memories of my own trips on that train where I used to commute to work. I can’t say I particularly had fond memories of it as it was always a dreadful feeling for me to commute to work during those mornings to the KL City Center.
It was also nice to be reunited with the siblings. We had a nice catch up that Tuesday evening where my sister in law hosted dinner as the family caught up after nearly over two years of not seeing me and my family.
We spent Wednesday at the Mitsui Outlet Mall to do some shopping and while I did get some clothes for myself and for the little one, it was one tiring journey to the place (I almost forgot how long the drives can be in Malaysia!)
Thursday was spent with wifey’s friends as she went for lunch with her friends. It was also good seeing them after so long and it was particularly relaxing that afternoon as the little one got to play together with our friends’ kids as well. That evening I caught up with my Wolfpack Colleagues after not seeing them in more than 4 years! It was a welcoming reunion and gathering as we recounted tales of the past and also had a spirited discussion on our favourite football teams, just like in the old days.
Friday was spent at Kidzania where the little one got to be a “grown-up” for a day and do grown up things. It was a memorable family time for us as both the wifey and me took turns to accompany him to visit all these vocational activities. The only thing that wasnt so great was that it was packed with so many kids as it was also the school holidays in Malaysia. We then spent the evening visiting my church and young adults friends over a small get-together after nearly 3 years of not seeing them! it was also a wonderful time as we all bonded and caught up with one another, reminiscing of things of the past and also sharing where everyone is at in their own state of life.
On Saturday, after spending the night before packing up and getting ready to leave, we bade farewell to our Hotel as my brother came to pick us up at the Hotel as we made our way up to Penang over a 4.5 hours road trip.
