The week that was

The week leading up to March 31st, which was the last week of March was an eventful one. It was this week that we finally got to see our little one in action. We signed up for the OSCAR test which provides a detailed scan of foetus at 11-14 weeks. We went it for our scan at Week 12. To our delight, as the radiographer prepared to scan the wifey’s belly, we found Cashew tucked away in deep sleep.

As this was a detailed scan, the radiographer required the baby to move so she could get a scan of the baby’s spine and other critical body parts such as the chest, legs and arms. And so to facilitate this, the wifey had to move her belly and simulate coughs so it would cause some movement in the womb. I found this moment to be very memorable as it was the first time we, as parents were playing with our baby. It was difficult making the baby move and “wake up” from his/her deep slumber.

But after many efforts, we finally got the baby to move and that was the most brilliant moment. Seeing the features of the baby’s nose, his/her tiny arms and his/her feet moving in slight motion was a thrilling moment for the parents. I remember just thinking at that moment that all my worries just stopped. For a moment there I forgot about my anxieties and all my feelings about work and thoughts about what I need to do that day. At that moment, none of my issues mattered. It was all about the child.

After the scan was over, I remember telling the wifey how I needed it – how I needed that support from Cashew to get me through the week and how that moment was just a special moment for me. As always, wifey was pleased to hear all this. I guess she’s really happy to know that Cashew will have one awesome dad in the future.

The rest of the week was pretty much nonchalant. The usual routine you could say. But yes, seeing the baby was one special moment. Who knows one day when Cashew is old enough, he may just read this entry and chuckle at how we played with him/her when he was just barely 12 weeks old!
