Staying the course

S

Being a leader is not easy. I know because right now I have just assumed leadership position of an organization in my church. Basing on everything I have read about the topic I find that the most important thing a leader needs to possess is focus. In that sense, George W Bush comes to my mind – how he single handedly against the odds of the world decided to invade Iraq and occupy the location for a good number of years – although it was a poor and unnecessary invasion, I admired his focus and determination.

Leaders today need that. The ability to stay the course even when people are saying otherwise is key to leadership. In my charge already I have had to make some very unpopular decisions for the organization and it’s already proving to take some toll, on me personally. Suddenly you start questioning whether what you are doing is correct – whether it makes sense – whether you should heed to the warning that people are saying.

And I think this is where it’s key to be clutch – to stay focused, have the discipline to see through the change, be adaptable to any changes, be present in the situation and finally to have a healthy amount of passion and desire to drive the changes and as well as a dose of fear and humility to acknowledge that things will not go as plan.

I think if I could summarize, leadership is best exhibited when things are in the unknown and you just have to have the courage to stay the course and be clutch.
