When You Get Tired Of Knock-Offs

W

As I shared recently, I bought myself a wonderful new iPad Pro M5 which I christened as Lisa. Lisa is probably my most expensive tech to that, and with that hefty price tag, also my most powerful device (I am sure it’s more powerful than my MSI Gaming Laptop).

As you know, with new shiny devices come cool accessories. And Lisa was no exception – except that I had a hard time figuring out what to deck her up with. I knew I had to get a keyboard cover as I planned to heavily use it as my work laptop substitute for as much as I can – but which one would I get? The de facto Magic Keyboard, the Logitech Combo? The alon keyboard which is what I used for my Tab S8+? Which one should I go for.

I started looking around the 3rd party alternatives products and while in the past I wouldn’t have batted an eye to get these cheaper alternatives, this time around I felt a tugging within me to just spend the money and get something that I would like, something that would be of a good quality and more importantly that would last.

And that’s when it got me thinking maybe I am also done with cheap imitation goods. Yes, I know they offer more bang for the buck and all, and there’s really nothing wrong getting a cheaper product that can essentially perform the same function.

But the question was – does it really perform the same function?

And I guess I got my first taste with the Magic Keyboard in which based on my recent post, I mentioned how I found the device comfortable to type and easy to use – like something in the keyboard had actually changed – hands did eventually feel tired with the smaller width keyboard but given the compact typing layout space, I could actually type and reach my keys much faster. In the end, I was very glad I went with the official Magic Keyboard.

And that’s when I guess it really hit me – it does PAY to pay for a better product in the long run – sure they costs more (2 – 3 x more) but my gosh, the satisfaction you get from using them – the utility is just worth it.

And so, my next step was to get a connected case so that I could
1) Protect Lisa when she’s docked on my keyboard
2) Easily take her off my keyboard and put her on another case where she will function more as a tablet
3) Have a product I could trust and the quality was good

After much research on Shopee and the web, I finally felt the MOFT Connected Case and the Dynamic folio would be the answer to this. And so after contacting a local mobile shop that extensively carried MOFT products, I finally reserved the connected case as well as the Dynamic casing cover.

I have to say I was blown away by the quality and utility of these products. The connected case was quite basic but did its intended job like a royal swiss guard, but the star of the show was definitely the folio – the amount of permutations you can do to fold up and prop up your ipad is crazy – I think its about 13 if I am not mistaken? And the best part was the connected case could be directly connected to the folio without me having to remove anything which is exactly what I wanted.

Yes I could have continued going with knockoff imitations but I felt I am done with such products. I feel that yes while these accessories are significanlty cheaper, they definitely lack that premium build, which I personally am starting to feel matters. Investing in a quality product is starting to have a more positive yield within me – I know I paid for something pricey, but I am also guaranteed that it will be a quality item and would last long. I recall having my iPad Mini original folio casing (I got it used but in good condition) and did that flap not only last me a good 3 years, but I never felt the need to change it because despite it being overused and the side peeling had started to come off, the “premiumness” of the accessory was still something that was undeniable and while I eveentually replaced the cover with a knockoff, the quality and finishing was just miles apart.

Perhaps my shopping choices are changing – I think it pays to invest in a quality product that will go a long way at the end of the day.

As always, this entry was proudly typed on Lisa’s Magic Keyboard and what a delightful experience it was to type this short 3 minute entry.
