So I recently bought a laptop. Actually I kinda traded up my old Asus 1005P netbook (which I got back in 2010!) for a proper windows-based laptop. I didn’t really want to invest in a new notebook for stuff which I knew I was going to just clown around and use as a spare laptop. Besides, I already have my faithful Macbook Air 2013 for all my daily computing task. But the thought of installing bootcamp on my Mac was just appalling to say the least. It was just too bizarre to have a Windows OS on a Mac chassis, to say the least!
So then I began my quest in looking for a used laptop. Prices at the IT mall for used laptops were just ridiculous given how substandard the specs were for the price that was being advertised for. I ended up browsing but found nothing that was value for money.
In the end, after searching around, I finally found a good deal on Carousell. An x220 powered by 8GB of RAM and an Intel i7-2640M processor! All this together with a 256 gb ssd hard drive. I knew I was in for a good deal and lo and behold, I was not disappointed. I always had an affinity for ThinkPads since my days with Big Blue and among all the laptops I had used at work, I found thinkpads and the Dell Latitude (12.5-inch) laptops to be the best. Thinkpads, in particular, were hardy and storky beasts that were built to last and take on heavy duty work.
And so here I am now happily pounding away this entry on my x220. I absolutely love this machine and the fact that its an old but well-maintained unit gives it a classic and legendary status that I still find appealing. It certainly does rock a vintage look with modern guts inside!
I hope to use this machine when I start my post graduate studies in the near future. The fact that it has a docking station is just perfect for my future academic work. I am truly glad I got this machine at such a good bargain!
