Penang Adventures

P

My departure to Penang yesterday was kinda “abrupt”. Well it wasn’t really sudden, cuz my brother and I were already planning on heading back for 2 days as he needed to attend to some personal work over there, and me…well I could use a short break. Penang was great, it was quite peaceful and quiet. As usual we went DVD hunting, (yes Penang still has the lowest DVD prices in the country) where I ended up getting some James Bond movies. I’m talking about the Sean Cornery- Roger Moore ones. I guess part of the reason I got em was perhaps to prepare my anticipation for Quantum of Solace?

And of course, the Penang visit would have never been completed if I didn’t pay a visit to the aunty who makes the best Wan Tan Mee in Penang! Seriously she does!! I’ve gotten into arguments and disagreements with folks who claim to boast that the best Wan Tan Mee in Penang is somewhere else and not in Island Glades! Being a Wan Tan Mee freak that I am, personally I’ve never had anything better than hers.

Oh and to celeberbrate my brithday (which is this saturday!) I decided to spoil myself and get a Nikon D60 DSLR Camera. Penang is well known for having the best prices on digital cameras in the country, and my God, it is so true! If you are ever thinking of getting a digital camera, go to Penang, more specifically visit this shop called Click N Snap. They’re located in Komtar Ground Floor on Penang Road. If you’re familiar with Komtar, you might remember the old MAS office on the ground floor (just opposite the Komtar Bus-stop (note : this bus-stop is NOT the one nearer to Perangin Mall, it’s the other one where you have to cross the road!); it’s just on the same row as that MAS office.  ClickN Snap was recommended by one of my brother’s friends and I was told that it has the lowest price in the country!  For the RM1880 that I paid for the camera, heck yes they are the lowest in the country!!

I wasted no time in putting my camera to the test. What better way to test it than to visit the Butterfly Farm up in Teluk Bahang? We took more than 100 snaps over there, and it was an awesome experience for me! I’ve always loved wildlife photography, and although shooting butterflies in a sanctuary farm doesn’t quite really qualify as wildlife photography, it was still an experience for me. I’ve yet to upload the images on my computer and look carefully at the results.  Along the drive back from Penang, we took a couple more shots of the Penang beaches.

We ended up leaving Penang at 5.30 and the journey back was…well lets just say we were not the only ones of on the road that were heading back. Throngs of SUVs and cars, most bearing KL and  Selangor number plates, were also heading back. The highway was jammed up at certain spots, specially at the toll gates. Took us roughly 5 and half hours to get home; we actually made a quick stop at Ipoh to have dinner before resuming our way.

I guess the trip to Ferringi beach and Teluk Bahang was the only difference, if I were to compare this trip to my other Penang trips. But I have to admit ; I wish I could have spent more time covering the Northern part. Just driving past it didn’t quite cut it for me.  I really wanted to visit Kampung Nelayan,  Pantai Kerachut and check out the Penang National Park. It’s so embarrasing at times to call myself a Penangite, and to tell folks I’ve never been to Pantai Kerachut! Well at least the next time I drive up to Penang, I’ll have another “new” attraction to look forward to 🙂
