Daddy’s Little Girl

D

So the title says it all. As I mentioned a couple of posts’s ago, I shared that I am going to be a daddy again. Today, we found out the gender of our 2nd child – it’s a girl. It was a real surreal feeling to finally realise that we were blessed with a baby girl. I couldnt stop feeling happy the whole day today soon after we found out. It felt like I was on cloud 9 after so long. A surreal feeling.

We arrived at the gynae’s clinic with some excitement in our hearts. We knew today, if baby cooperated, we would be able to know the gender. And so after waiting for about 30-45 minutes, it was finally our turn to see the baby. The whole encounter was comical and memorable to say the least. Doc asked us THE question – do we want to know the gender of the baby to which we responded yes, if its possible! We did not know Cashew’s gender until the day he was born although wifey had a hunch it was a boy. With PECAN, wifey felt it was a girl but she couldn’t be so sure. We also did not want to keep our hopes high as well – we were just thankful to have a child, boy or girl it wouldn’t matter we told ourselves.

And so as the scanning started, my eyes were glued to the monitor above the doc. I was trying to focus on the screen and make sense of what I was seeing. At the onset itself baby looked good in a prostrate position. Spine was clear and the head was growing nicely and measured up nicely at 11 cm. Next, the doc checked for the heartbeat which was just pounding all the way. I smiled to myself listening to baby’s heartbeat once again as I recalled fondly how Noah also had a chance to listen to baby’s heartbeat during the 1st few visits we had and how excited he was (not sure if he knew really what was going on but I am gonna assume he did!)

Then came the moment of truth – boy or girl. My heart was prepared to receive the news that it would be a boy. I collected myself and told myself its all good, even if its a boy its all good. But as the doc was trying to scan and spot the pee-pee, it appeared that there was NO pee-pee. He then explained usually the pee-pee will be sticking out or something long can be seen and after some more scans and no sign of pee-pee, he concluded its a GIRL!

A girl, a baby girl, our baby girl. I was so elated within my heart that it was so surreal for me. The last time I truly felt this way was when wifey told me way back in Jan that she was pregnant. Today was another wonderful day and such a blessing from God. He truly knew what to give and when to give it to us. A truly memorable experience for both wifey and me. And not to forget the little one who will now be proud to say that he is a big brother, a thambee a kor-kor
