Mission Accomplished

M

If you’re reading this, you’d probably can’t tell the difference. Perhaps the only thing you might notice is how much longer it might have taken to load this blog of mine. Well that’s because this site is not sitting on an entirely new hosting site. The house has moved to another piece of land if you may!

I’m really pleased with my new web hosting, LunarPages. Actually I’m just pleased with everything about this migration. I never expected it to be…well smooth sailing if you will. The wordpress backup procedures were excecuted without any problems at all, and the migration of the blog itself to LunarPages was a breeze.

Probably the ONLY critical moment occured when it came time to change the Wordpress URL and Blog URL addresses in the WP settings. Cuz as soon as I made my changes, my blog went down again; that’s because I had changed the DNS server names and it would take a while for it to propagate on the WWW. The reason I was a little apprehensive and anxious was because I had some bad experience in the past, but thankfully those experiences came in handy today when it came to setting up my blog in a new hosting site.

Perhaps one day, I will write about a more detailed IDIOTS guide, step-by-step process on how to go about migrating a wordpress blog to another new host. I know there are guides out there already, but again this is for my own benefit.

I guess when it comes to migrating your wordpress to another hosting site, 5 activities should come into mind:

a) Backup of the WP folder and the MYSQL dB

b) Changing the WordPress and Blog URL address to reflect the new address

c) Changing of the nameservers

c) Creation of a new MYSQLdB and editing the configurations on wp-config.php

d) Uploading the WP folder back into the new hosting site

e) Waiting for the domain name propagation to complete

Well it’s been a long day for me, off to bed, blogging resumes normally tomorrow 🙂
