Hardly less than a week into my job and I’m off for my 1st company trip for the weekend! This trip really caught me by surprise because 4 days ago, halfway during our new employee orientation, the trainer abruptly asked the class whether we’re going for the conference trip this weekend?
Huh? What conference trip? So soon? Maybe we’re not gonna get invited…
But lo and behold it’s a company wide event, and from the looks of it…it sounds compulsory….oh well, part of me isn’t really that excited about it… I was actually looking forward to spending a quiet weekend at home; catching up with my online trainings and readings… on the contary, this would be a fantastic opportunity to network with other people in the organization. I’ve realized, based on previous experience the power of networking and getting to meet people… even though in the short-term you may not like it (missing the quiet weekend, having to get up early to be at the departure venue ON TIME) the long-term gains are evident… like what my previous HR counselor told me once, when I was a green horn in my previous company – ALWAYS MAKE YOURSELF VISIBLE… I guess attending this event is acheiving that goal… so no posts from me until Sunday!
