Who’s your shining star?

August 5th, 2009 The author

I gotta admit, I wrote my last piece of entry in a very melancholic mood. Yes I was a little down. But what is really ironic is that the very next night, as I was watching Jack on Star Movies, I stumbled upon a very meaningful song towards the end of the movie. Almost instantly upon hearing it I knew it was a Bryan Adams song, and it’s called Star.  Very meaningul lyrics, and for some reason it gives you something that most of us sometimes lack and are in dire need – hope.

I’ll post my thoughts on this song some other time.

For now…

Enjoy the song, lyrics below :

What cha wanna be – when you grow up
What cha gonna do – when your time is up
What cha gonna say – when things go wrong
What cha wanna do – when youre on your own

Theres a road – long and winding
The lights are blindin – but it gets there
Dont give up – dont look back
Theres a silver linin – its out there somewhere
Everybody wants an answer – everybody needs a friend
We all need a shinin star on which we can depend
N so tonight were gonna wish upon a star
We never wished upon before – (to find what youre
Looking for)
Therell be times – in your life
Ya when you be dancin n shit – but you aint gettin it
But dont get disillusioned – no, dont expect too much
Cuz if what you have is all you can get – just keep on
Tryin – it just aint happened yet
Everybody wants ta be winner – everybody has a dream
We all need a shinin star when things aint what they seem
So tonight were gonna wish upon a star
We never wished upon before – (gotta get where youre
Headed for)

Everybody wants some kindness – everybody needs a break
We all need a shinin star when things get hard to take
So tonight were gonna wish upon a star
We never wished upon before

Connectivity Freedom

April 5th, 2009 The author

It took me a long time to do this, but I finally felt enough was enough. It was next to impossible for me to work or do literally anything without connection to the internet. For someone who spends nearly half of his day working on a laptop, staying connected is no more considered a ‘luxury’ good for me. I feel the amount of money which I am forced to fork out at a coffeeshop for a cuppa just to use the internet is not justified. Besides I need to find such a coffeeshop JUST to connect. Also, while travelling or staying at locations where access to internet is extremely limited…damn you sure wish you had internet access!

As I mentioned before, because of my dependence on my laptop, I decided that it is high time I have wireless broadband. So without wasting much time today, I decided to sign up with Celcom. Believe you me, I had thought long and hard whether I should go for either Maxis or Celcom. Since I was already a Maxis phone subscriber and my phone had 3G connectivity, I felt going for maxis would be a waste.  Without trying to sound biased, I personally found their 3G service to be rather poor. Even in prominent spots in PJ, the 3G connection seemed feeble.

And so I felt convinced that probably Celcom would be a better bet. After all they did ‘boldly’ claim that they are the number 1 wireless broadband service in the country, so I guess I can’t go wrong with them.

So far I am quite pleased with their service. Though it’s been only a day, I find that I’m able to surf significantly faster as compared to my streamyx connection. However I plan to conduct a real vis-a-vis network connectivity test to really see if there’s a significant difference between the two. I need a quick test below and this was the result, definitely more tests need to be done to validate the statistics.

What a week

January 24th, 2009 The author

Never in my life I had longed for the weekend as bad as this week. The pressures at work have been mounting gradually and expectedly over the last few weeks, hence it would justify the inactivity of my blog over the last couple of days.

Heh, such is the life of a project life cycle. It often starts slow, (or in some cases fast), and then it goes through a phase of fast and slow. Now, it’s almost close to boiling point, and this past whole week I’ve been having presentation meetings non stop to present my training deliverables to senior managers.

I have to admit, I’m extremely hessistant to talk about my project work on this space. Workis work, and I learnt a long time ago that blogging about the details of my work could be risky. Hence, it’s just best to be succicnt about it. All I can say is that, to a certain degree it has been both frustrating and enjoyable and also challenging at times.

I wish I could things faster, grasp the concepts relating to my project at a faster pace, unfortunately it is not so. Nevertheless working in a petroleum industry has definitely been rewarding in its own right way. Learning how plants operate and getting a taste of the most lucrative industry right now has been in some ways, a privellage. It’s something that perhaps maybe one day, will come in handy when it comes to raising my kids and giving them career guidance.

But yeah, whole week presentations are no fun. I can’t believe how fast time just flew (and how at times it was just so slow and you were wondering when is it all going to end!!) But the weekend has come, and that too a long one. I hope to blog something over this long break, as I’ve been to verbalize a couple of thoughts I’ve been ruminating on over the last couple of days.

It’s funny how in such busy days, you somehow are able to think and reflect more, I don’t know it always is the case for me…well at least most of the time ;)

So now you know why there was radio silence…
